The Beehive Bazaar—December 2009

For the Beehive Bazaar at the beginning of December I made candy rings, some papier mache, and some felt hair clips and felt flower pins. I had several other projects in the works, but didn't finish them in time, including the paper dolls (there was a big mishap by the place that did some laminating for me...kinda ruined most of the project). It was fun to share a booth space with Josh's cousins, Briana, Tess and Candice! They had lovely things and delicious treats to sell.

A little bit of loveliness

Elmo got all dressed up with beautiful flowers M entwined around him. Isn't he lovely? And she is oh so lovely as well, with her lovely up do, and snuggling into her pretty princess bed.

Frilly Pink Birthday Cake

I decided to make myself a big birthday cake this year. It took all day on my birthday to make it, but that was a treat in itself. The babes were all well-behaved and amazingly self-sufficient on my birthday, and Josh was busy with food prep for the Christmas Eve party so I revelled in cake heaven and frosting frills to my heart's content. And yes, it is a healthy 100% whole-grain cake (I used kamut flour I ground). Now, I can't extend that same praise to the frosting, as it is purely butter and sugar — no redemptive qualities beyond it's glorious good looks, sensational smoothness and perfect peppermint flavoring. Thanks to my good neighbor for taking these photographs as I am still without camera (the situation is getting dire!). BTW, you'll notice part of me in the background of the second photo... wearing the stylish apron my sil gave me and a pink shirt so I could match the cake during the party (HA—just kidding about the matching, but I do love a bright pink shirt for a party). And to sidetrack a little, yes, those are real squash in the background of the third picture. There is a buttenut squash, a spaghetti squash and two different kinds of pumpkins on top of that pink shelf. I've been storing and using them ever since October when I purchased them (we had a bad garden this last year) for Fall decorations. Last year I think I started the winter with over 30 squash from my own garden sitting around my kitchen. It took all winter to use them up.

Workout Barbie

Okay, just one more Halloween costume. This one was really a winner. She gets an "A" for style, for craftsmanship, for concept. She even has an accessory jump rope attached to the inside of the packaging. What a babe! The box is a delicious pms 218c.

Strawberry Leotard

Mavis loves "gynastics". She loves wearing leotards too. This one is shiny and has pink strawberries on it—a metallic version of pms 226. Super cute!

It was meant to be

Most of my memories and feelings are associated with colors. For example, the day I met my husband I was wearing a green shirt (pms 376 u), he was wearing a coral-ish colored shirt (pms 108-4 u), and the sun was casting a golden glow about. Those are two of my most preferred colors, and in just the right light so it's not surprising that he made an impression under such perfect circumstances. A sure sign it was meant to be.

Pebble Pets — turtle and dog

These Pebble Pets are some I created when I taught a mid-week Young Women's class for church several years ago. They are fairly small, maybe 2.5" tall at the most. Don't mind the plastic bird from the Cinderella Polly Pocket set (you couldn't even tell what it was, could you?) in the center of the photo.

An Easter bunny

I first made this bunny poster for a pin-the-tail-on-the-bunny game for an Easter celebration. I couldn't bear to throw it away at the end so I attached it to this metal ceiling tile that I'd picked up at an antique shop, painted, and attached a silk ruffle to. The ensemble now hangs over M's bookshelf in her bedroom. The silk ruffle is in a delicious, lipstick pink (pms 1785) that I often crave (it's like craving sugar, that's how eye-candy works). Yes, the bunny has a real cotton tail.
